To reduce the noise pollution from two Mitsubishi air conditioning units, ET Projects installed an enclosure on the roof of the Hema store in Kerkrade. The homes adjacent to the roof were experiencing noise disturbance from these units. ET Projects came up with a solution where one side of the enclosure remains open to allow access for maintenance and inspection.
Given the various obstacles on the roof and the cabling/piping for the units, the enclosure was equipped with adjustable feet.
Installation of the Acoustic Enclosure
A notable challenge during the installation was the availability of the crane. The Hema in Kerkrade is located in the city center, and the crane was only allowed to position itself in front of the store between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM. Due to the limited time, it was decided to lift the entire acoustic enclosure at once. The acoustic silencers were separately lifted onto the roof on a pallet since they could easily be manually placed on top of the acoustic enclosure. In this way, we were able to lift all necessary materials onto the roof with two crane movements.
The acoustic enclosure was placed level on the roof with the help of the crane. Additionally, it was possible to create openings on-site for the exhausts of the units. Once the enclosure was leveled and the openings were made, the crane was no longer needed. We then placed the silencers on top of the enclosure and completed the installation.
