To improve the acoustics in a gymnasium, ET Projects installed polyester wool panels on the ceiling. To achieve the desired effect, 50mm thick polyester wool panels with a density of 20kg/m3 were chosen. In total, over 600m2 of polyester wool was installed to improve the gymnasium acoustics. Consideration was given to the lighting and the supports on the ceiling for elements such as basketball hoops.
Gymnasium Acoustic Installation
Given the height of the ceiling, it was decided to use a scissor lift for the installation. The finish floor was installed after the installation to prevent any damage caused by the lift. Covering the floor was also an option, but given the extremely expensive floor and the time involved, it was decided to install the floor afterward as the most logical choice.
The ceiling consists of concrete elements coated in black. Therefore, black polyester wool panels were chosen to improve the gymnasium acoustics. The acoustic solution in this gymnasium is virtually invisible.
The technical specifications for the acoustic solution required that the adhesive used contain as much solid content as possible. For this reason, tube adhesive was chosen. This adhesive needs to be firmly pressed onto the panels to secure them to the ceiling. A major advantage of this adhesive choice is that the panels can still be slightly adjusted during installation.
The photo below shows the improved acoustics of the gymnasium. As mentioned, the final result is virtually invisible.
